What I can help you with

Most people need one of the first three. Each row opens a short explanation of how that kind of plan works, who it tends to fit and what the numbers look like.

Get a rough idea of cost before we talk

Four questions, no name or phone number. The ranges are based on typical private PPO pricing by age and household size, so treat them as a starting point. A real quote depends on your ZIP code, the carrier and your health history.

  • Tells you whether private or Marketplace is the stronger lane
  • Carries your answers into the quote form so you don't repeat them

Who needs coverage?

Any major ongoing conditions in the household?

Diabetes, heart disease, cancer history, current pregnancy, and similar. Private plans ask. Marketplace plans never do.

Is your household income above roughly $63,000 a year?

That is close to the subsidy threshold for a household your size. Above it, private plans usually win. Below it, the Marketplace may be subsidized.

How working with me goes

Three steps from first call to active coverage. Open each one to see what happens and what you get from me.

An agent walking a client through plan options
Every recommendation comes with the reason behind it, in writing, before you sign anything.

It costs the same as buying direct

Premiums are filed with each state's insurance department, so a plan costs exactly the same whether you buy it from the carrier, on Healthcare.gov or through me. The difference is what comes with it.

    Hi, I'm Layla.

Long before I became a health insurance agent, I knew I wanted my life to be centered around serving people. That started in middle school, feeding people experiencing homelessness and spending time with children from a local orphanage. I didn't have a word for it then. I just knew that helping someone, even in a small way, made me feel like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

The chapters below are the short version of how that turned into this business.

What this has to do with your health insurance

Today I'm an independent agent working with individuals, families, self-employed people and Medicare-eligible clients in Florida and 39 other states. I don't see the job as selling policies. It's another way to serve.

Health insurance asks people to make decisions about their health, their family and thousands of dollars using terms nobody taught them. My job is to make that easier: compare the real options from UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Mutual of Omaha and others, explain them plainly, and recommend the one that fits. Then stay reachable. My clients have my cell number, and when a bill, a claim or a renewal doesn't make sense, they text me and I handle it.

Whether it's a family here at home or a child thousands of miles away, the purpose is the same: use what I've been given to make someone's life a little better.

Questions I get asked a lot

Don't see yours? Text me and I'll answer it directly.

Does it cost anything to use an agent?

No. Carriers pay agents a commission out of the premium, and the premium is the same whether you enroll through an agent, directly with the carrier or on Healthcare.gov. Rates are filed with each state and cannot be marked up.

      Can I keep my doctor?

Usually, if we choose the plan around them. Before I quote anything, I check your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions against each plan's network and formulary. Nationwide PPO plans give the most flexibility; some Marketplace HMOs are regional.

      What if I have a pre-existing condition?

Marketplace plans cover pre-existing conditions and cannot decline you. Private PPO plans are underwritten, so a significant condition can affect approval or price. I'll tell you honestly which lane makes sense before we spend time on an application.

Can I enroll outside Open Enrollment?

Private plans can start any month. Marketplace plans require a qualifying life event outside November 1 to January 15: losing employer coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby or a change in household income, among others. The window is typically 60 days from the event.

      How quickly can coverage start?

Private plans are often approved within a few days and can start on the 1st or 15th of the following month, sometimes sooner. Marketplace plans start on the 1st of the month after you enroll.

I'm turning 65. What do I need to do?

Your Initial Enrollment Period runs from three months before your birthday month to three months after. I'll go through Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Part D with you, check your doctors and prescriptions, and handle the enrollment.

Will I get spam calls if I fill out the form?

No. Your information goes to me and nobody else. It is never sold or passed to a call center. You'll hear from one person: me.

      What happens after I enroll?

I confirm the policy is active, make sure your ID cards arrive and stay available for questions, claims issues and renewals. Each year I review whether your plan is still the right one, because carriers change networks and prices.

Tell me about your household and I'll send you options

I reply personally, usually the same business day, with two or three plans that fit and the reasons for each. Your information goes to me and nobody else.
